Samir: then u can make it dual boot

Atul: do u want to take control of my pc and rezig it

Samir: so that u can use the windows part for all chat purpose

Atul: i have empty DVD, CDS and data back up

Samir: and unix part for all the geeky stuff like Version control etc

unix is still the best as far as virus protection is concerned

Atul: what about "ubuntu"

Samir: ubuntu is a flavor of linux

Atul: as very used to Wintel look

Samir: I wud prefer either ubuntu or fedora

Atul: can i have Ubuntu + Apple + Windows :-)

Samir: not sure abt apple

but u can have ubuntu + windows

Atul: might make sense to buy an apple separately

Samir: like u can have system booting with ubuntu and Widnows in virtual machine

or vice versa

Atul: Desktop PC is used by my wife

but i also want to use it

can she handle unix ?

Atul: she uses it for browsing, watching IP TV, Torrents etc

Samir: then the simplest thing will be to install xp first

Atul: agree

Samir: blindly put XP as OS there

Atul: thatz what i had

Samir: so that it is available all the time

after XP is on you can put ubuntu or any other Unix in VM

if u want to play with unix

Atul: yes .. i want to have a patition or dual boot etc

have some faied attempts at VM Ware etc

Samir: u dont need a dual boot if the unix is just for casual use

latest VM ware server is open source and good

Atul: ok

so what are the next steps

Samir: when u get the XP installed and internet connected

get AVG

install AVG Free and make sure that it updates everyday

and scans the system every night

Atul: what CDs/DVD etc i need befoe i start

Samir: u need the XP CD

to install XP OS

do u have XP Pro or home

u can always have dual boot even after u put xp as main OS

I will tell u if the need arises for that in future

Atul: will have to search .. or get from sudhaker

Samir: there is software to resize the partition witout disturbing the OS installation

to install XP

put the XP boot CD in disk drive and restart the PC

and make sure that it boots from the DVD / CD

Atul: cool

Samir: it will guide you step by step to install the XP

once XP is installed the you need to install the drivers for all the extra stuff like video card, sound card etc from the discs u got from the vendor

then you can put the AVG
